ADMISSIONS CATEGORIES

Regular
Students who meet the program specific admission standards established by the state and MTC and who properly complete the admissions procedure will be admitted into a degree/diploma/certificate program as a regular program admission.

Provisional
Provisional program admission to degree/diploma/certificate programs is granted to those students who do not meet regular program admission requirements, but who meet provisional program-specific admission requirements as established by program standards. Provisionally admitted students are those students who score 096 or 097 level in one subject area on the placement exam. Provisionally admitted students must enroll inlearning support studies classes in the subject area that does not meet regular admission status. Provisionally admitted students are allowed to take certain program-specific courses as designated in the program standards. All program students initially admitted on a provisional basis must meet regular program admission requirements prior to graduation.

Learning Support Studies
Learning Support Studies admission is granted to students who do not meet the regular or provisional admissions requirements. Learning Support Studies students are students who score 096 or 097 level in two or more subject areas on the placement exam. Upon overcoming deficiencies and making appropriate scores on the placement exam in learning support areas, students are eligible for admission to programs on a regular or provisional basis. Students scoring 095 level in any area will be referred to adult literacy for remediation in that subject area. The amount of time spent in learning support depends upon the individual student’s needs and progress.

Special (Unclassified)
The Special student admission category is designed to be an admissions method for non-award seeking students. The following specifics define the parameters of this classification:

  1. Be classified as non-award seeking at time of entry by the admissions office.
  2. Be granted special student status upon recommendation of the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management.
  3. Receive credit for regular program course work, which is satisfactorily completed.
  4. Receive credit for a non-limited number of courses, but have the ability to transfer only 25 credit hours into a specific program for award seeking purposes.
  5. Have the option of applying for regular student status but must go through the regular student admissions process. This includes taking the state approved entrance assessment. The number of hours taken as a special student in no way waives the requirement of the regular admission process.
  6. Adhere to the specific institutional prerequisite requirements when selecting courses.
  7. Or be classified as a transient student.
