Financial Aid Sources
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is an award to help undergraduate
students pay for their education beyond high school.
For many students, Pell Grants provide a "foundation"
of financial aid, to which aid from other federal
and nonfederal sources may be added. Grants do
not have to be repaid. The amount of financial
aid a student is eligible to receive through the
Pell Grant is determined by using the information
on the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education
applies a standard formula established by Congress
to determine Pell Grant eligibility. The Financial
Aid Office at Moultrie Technical College will
assist you with the Pell Grant application. You
should apply well in advance (4-6 weeks) of the
registration or pre-registration date. Your financial
aid file must be complete by designated deadlines,
or you will be required to pay the tuition and
fees and then apply for reimbursement.
Federal Work Study (FWS)
The Federal Work Study program provides jobs for
students who demonstrate financial need. FWS enables
students to work while attending school. FWS gives
students a chance to earn money to help pay for
educational expenses. FWS is subject to limited
funding.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity
Grant (FSEOG)
FSEOG is a federally funded grant for undergraduates.
Priority for FSEOG is given to students with the
lowest EFC (Estimated Family Contribution). Students
are not required to be enrolled full time to receive
FSEOG. FSEOG is available fall and spring semesters.
HOPE Scholarship
Georgia residents seeking an Associate in Applied
Science Degree may be eligible for a Helping
Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE) Scholarship.
Only students who graduated from high school in
1993 or later and were HOPE Scholars will qualify
for the HOPE Scholarship as an entering freshman.
Other students may qualify if they achieve a 3.0
cumulative grade point average at the end of 30, 60, and 90 attempted semester hours. The grade
average is based on all college-level credit hours
attempted after high school graduation. The HOPE Scholarship will cover $60.75 per credit hour of tuition expenses. All students receiving the HOPE Scholarship will be reevaluated for eligibility at 30, 60, and 90 attempted semester hours and at the end of each spring semester. Students must have a 3.0 HOPE cumulative grade point average to continue on the HOPE Scholarship program. To apply, students should complete
the HOPE Scholarship Evaluation Form. Students become ineligible for the HOPE Scholarship seven years after the date they graduated from high school or earned a GED. Students who have already completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher are not eligible for the HOPE Scholarship.
