Bassett and Boone Achieve Certification for Moultrie Tech Board

MOULTRIE , GEORGIA – Lawton Bassett III and Bill Boone, members of the Board of Directors of Moultrie Technical College, recently completed the requirements to become Certified Board Members, as determined by the Technical College Directors' Association of Georgia.

Members are chosen to serve on the Moultrie Tech Board of Directors, because they represent the interests and concerns of the four counties of Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth which the college serves. Bassett is the president and CEO of Citizens Security Bank in Tifton while Boone is the director of the Georgia Center of Innovation in Agriculture, UGA, also in Tifton.

In order to become certified, they attended five required workshops and one elective workshop, in addition to completing 10 of 15 activity criteria. The five required workshops were: New Board Member Orientation; Governance of Technical Colleges; Community Advocacy; Building Relationships with Elected Officials-Part I; and Budgeting and Financial Management. Both also attended an elective workshop on Technical Education Trends and Issues.

The purpose of Board Member Certification is to build on the current skills of board members of technical colleges through workshops and activities that will further enhance their effectiveness as community leaders. Certification is voluntary on the part of the individual board member.

Other certified board members of Moultrie Technical College are Bryant Beadles of Balfour Lumber Company, Ellen Eaton of Tift Regional Medical Center, Tracy Tucker, retired, Janie Whitley of Shaw Industries and Will Vereen of Riverside Manufacturing Company. Members currently seeking certification are Linda Curington of State Farm Insurance and William Gully of Sanderson Farms.
