MOULTRIE , GA – Moultrie Technical College student Johnny Miller of Moultrie was recognized as a semi-finalist in the Retail Marketing Management Business Simulation event at the International Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) Career Development Conference held April 22-26 in Dallas, Texas. He placed in the top 20 in the international competitive event. Miller along with Phillip Viohl, also of Moultrie, who competed in the Restaurant and Food Services Business Simulation, both earned the Award of Excellence in their competitive events.
Nominated by his DEX chapter advisor and instructor John Overman, Viohl was also recognized with a Chapter Leadership Award, the State Leadership Award and the National Honor Award at the conference. The four other students attended the conference as representatives of Moultrie Tech’s Marketing Management program and its DEX Chapter were Crystal Hill, Josh Oliver, Denver Smith and Renee Truett.
According to Overman, “These students did quite well representing our local chapter, and I am very proud of their performance.” He added that the purpose of the competitive event program is to provide students the opportunity to gain recognition as they develop greater competence in their chosen career field.
Moultrie Tech’s DEX chapter also earned the prestigious Community Service Award, which is a way for Delta Epsilon Chi to show appreciation for the local chapter’s demonstration of civic responsibility and the chapter’s efforts to improve the local community.
Select members of MTC’s chapter were in Dallas to participate in Delta Epsilon Chi’s 45th Annual Career Development Conference as well. The annual conference brought together over 1,000 career oriented Marketing Management college students from throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Canada to demonstrate competencies acquired during the school year in various occupational categories. Members were also involved in the international Delta Epsilon Chi political campaigns to elect the division’s five national officers.
To attend the national conference members must have achieved recognition by winning awards at the Georgia Delta Epsilon Chi Career Development Conference. Those who win at international level are not only acclaimed by instructors, advisors, employers and their peers, but receive substantial reward for having reached the top of the Delta Epsilon Chi competitive event ladder.
Delta Epsilon Chi is the only international student organization operating through the nation’s colleges and Universities to attract young people to careers in marketing, merchandising, and management. Its purposes are to develop respect for education that will contribute to occupational competence, and to promote understanding and appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship in our free, competitive enterprise system.
