MTC Moultrie CIS Students Get Look at Hospital Diagnostics

On Tuesday August 28, 2007 ten students from the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department on the Veterans Parkway campus of MoultrieTechnical College traveled to Colquitt Regional Medical Center to view the hospital’s network and new diagnostic imaging services. The Diagnostic Imaging Services Department has the latest equipment available to give physicians an inside look at the workings of patients’ bodies.

At Colquitt Regional Medical Center, trained specialists perform X-ray studies, ultrasound and vascular imaging, nuclear medicine, CT (computerized tomography) scans, mammography and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) studies. The MRI unit features an open magnet structure that minimizes the discomfort that many patients experience in conventional closed magnet units. All of these procedures would not be possible without the support of the IT staff and the network that maintains the availability of the data. The students viewed first hand the complexity and value provided by the extensive computer network that supports the work of the health care professionals at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

The morning tour was conducted by Mitch Hiers, CRMC IT Director, and John Jimenez, CRMC Network Administrator, both past students at MoultrieTechnical College in the CIS Department. We also had the pleasure of meeting Jim Lowry, CRMC Administrator.
