Moultrie Tech Foundation Accepts Largest Gift to Date through Tifton Landowner


Land Donation to MTC Foundation

TIFTON , GA. Tifton landowner Clarence Smith presented the Moultrie Technical College Foundation, Inc. with an unparalleled donation on December 7, 2007. The more than 92 acres of wooded property on Perdue Road in Tifton, appraised at close to $600,000, was a much-needed addition for this growing college whose enrollment is at an all-time high.

“ This is the single largest donation that Moultrie Technical College has received in the school’s history,” said MTC Foundation director Darbie Avera. 

According to Dr. Tina Anderson, MTC president, future plans for use of the donated land include an on-site laboratory environment for the College’s wildlife management program which is still in development.

MTC vice-president of satellite operations, Dr. Shawn Utley, added about the donor, “Clarence Smith is a self-made man.  He began his life on his own at the age of 13 and has been working ever since.  He has owned a business, farmed, raised cattle, developed land…and on top of that, raised two girls and a boy.  He is also a veteran of the Korean War.”

In addition, Smith is an active member of the Tifton Kiwanis Club and a member of Zion Hope Baptist Church of Tifton.

The MTC Foundation develops resources for college needs in its service area of Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth counties. Such needs include student scholarships, program equipment and various building projects not covered by state-allocated funds.
