MOULTRIE , GA. The Moultrie Technical College Radiologic Technology program held its annual awards program on Thursday evening, May 31, 2007, at the college’s Veterans Parkway Conference Center to honor its current students and upcoming graduates for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and clinical site settings. The Radiologic Technology, or Rad Tech, students and faculty members also honored the clinical site technologists from area hospitals who have helped them gain hands-on experience.
In the field of Rad Tech, technologists prepare X-ray equipment, take patient histories, position patients for clear imaging, administer chemical mixtures, take X-ray images and protect patients from over-exposure to radiation.
Jerry Flannery, director of radiology at Tift Regional Medical Center, began the event as the keynote speaker and encouraged the students to think and work “out of the box” when they begin their employment in the field of radiologic technology. In particular he cited the importance of good work ethics.
The highlight of the evening was the awards presentation. Senior Jeffrey Lyon received the Scholastic Award presented by diagnostic imaging supervisor Diane Johnson of Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Senior William Cooper, who left the Rad Tech program temporarily for a tour of military duty in Iraq, received the Mallinkcrodt Award for outstanding clinical performance presented by Jerry Flannery of Tift Regional Medical Center. Lyon also received the Cathedral Award for outstanding clinical performance presented by diagnostic imaging supervisor Tereka Dixon of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Krista Herring and Melody Sindy, representatives of the 17-member junior class of Rad Tech students, presented Outstanding Technologists awards to Mandy Lane of Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Denise Bootes of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and Sandra Camp of Tift Regional Medical Center.
The evening concluded with a pinning ceremony of the 12 senior class members and program graduates and remarks from MTC Rad Tech program instructor Alfred Jones, MTC clinical coordinator Buffie Spencer and MTC vice president of instruction Jim Glass.
Alumni of MTC’s Rad Tech program boast a 100 percent pass rate on the profession’s certification exam and a 100 percent job placement rate.
