Moultrie Tech Chooses Tifton's Copeland as 2008 EAGLE Winner

2008 Eagle Winner - J.Copeland

Jerald Copeland, Moultrie Technical College EAGLE 2008 winner

MOULTRIE , GA. Jerald Copeland of Tifton has been chosen to represent Moultrie Technical College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute February 13-15, 2008. The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult literacy classes and programs including GED test preparation.

The Technical College System of Georgia, through its Office of Adult Literacy, sponsors the annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Leadership Institute.

Copeland, a 47-year-old GED student at Moultrie Tech’s Tifton campus, was born in Tift County and is the mother of three adult children and grandmother of five children. She enjoys reading and working in her yard.

She says, “I had been working on my getting my GED off and on, but because of my job and my children I could not focus on getting my GED.  Now, I can and I want to further my education by first getting my GED and then becoming a paralegal.”

Sandra Griffin, Moore’s adult literacy instructor at MTC in Tifton, says of her, “Jerald works hard and tries to encourage her fellow students.  She has gained the respect of other students and is very dedicated.  She is very outgoing and never meets a stranger.”

EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in the adult literacy programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
