Turner County’s Brinson Brock, a member of the Moultrie Technical College Board of Directors, treated some of Turner County High School’s students to a hands-on tour of the College’s Surgical Technology program lab on August 27.  The lab is located on the MTC Tifton Campus and features all the same technology and equipment one would find in a surgical suite at a hospital or physician’s office.  MTC Surgical Technology instructor Sherry King and her students taught the TCHS students to scrub up and tested their skills at suturing a banana peel and at cutting the tissue of a skinless chicken breast.  Surgical technicians, often called scrubs, perform a variety of duties in an operating room before, during and after surgery to ensure a sterile and safe surgical environment.  Surgical technicians are a part of the nation’s fastest growing occupational segment with a 98 percent job placement rate for Southwest Georgia.
