Moultrie Tech Wins National College Advertising Awards

ATLANTA , GA. — Moultrie Technical College came away with a gold award and additional accolades in this year’s Admissions Marketing Report national competition in the Technical, Vocational and Business College category. The publication announced the winners of its twenty-third annual Admissions Advertising Awards on February 22, 2008.

In creative partnership with Spark Digital Media Company in Macon, Moultrie Tech won first place for Best Television Advertising Series for its three “Reality Check” ads which mimic the numerous reality television show competitions so popular in current entertainment.

Featuring an aspiring supermodel character played by MTC student Leslie Peretti of Moultrie, a would-be rap star played by MTC director of online instruction Tavarez Holston, and a professional wrestling hopeful played by MTC student Tyler Reid of Turner County, the ads were “created to remind viewers that sometimes it is better to follow your career dreams by going down the technical college path rather than chasing a dream you really might not be suited for,” according to MTC director of marketing and public relations Jana Wiggins.

“We really took a chance this year by creating a somewhat unconventional and humorous approach to our annual TV, radio and newspaper ad campaign to promote quarterly enrollment. But, so far, it has been very well received in Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth counties, which is the area served by our college,” added Wiggins.

“The College as a whole works hard to project a positive image for technical education. We want people to know that their lives and their family’s lives truly can be changed by getting a technical education or a GED.”

MTC won additional awards for several print publications and ads in this year’s competition. The College received a bronze award for an ad series created specifically for “Get in the Game” magazine, a regional publication focused on high school sports in South Georgia. This series featured actual student athletes from MTC’s dual enrollment program for high schools in which students receive both high school and technical college credit simultaneously.

A single newspaper ad titled “98.6 Degrees is Normal” promoting the College’s six associate degree programs also took home a bronze honor.

Both the MTC 2006 annual report publication called “The Time of Our Lives” and an external publication titled “On the Edge” promoting the College’s economic development and continuing education course offerings and services received honorable mention awards.

Dr. Tina Anderson, president of Moultrie Tech, says, “I am very proud of the work of Moultrie Technical College’s creative team. The ads are truly professional and designed to benefit our target market of students. The Admissions Marketing Report awards are an affirmation of the great effort that goes into our ad campaigns.”

Moultrie Tech was joined by several sister colleges from Georgia’s Technical College System in the national award wins. Atlanta Tech, Chattahoochee Tech in Marietta, Gwinnett Tech in Lawrenceville, and Savannah Tech also helped put the state of Georgia in the college marketing spotlight.

The annual Admissions Advertising Awards is the oldest and largest educational advertising awards competition in the country. A national panel of judges consisted of admissions marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of Admissions Marketing Report.

This year over 2,200 entries were received from more than 1,200 colleges, universities and secondary schools, making 2007 the biggest competition to date. Entries were received from institutions in all fifty states and several foreign countries.

Admissions Marketing Report is a national marketing publication for higher education. Now in its twenty-sixth year, the Atlanta-based Admissions Marketing Report is read each month by nearly four thousand higher education marketers.
