Tift Resident Honored at International DEX Conference - John Overman

John Overman

Moultrie Technical College’s Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) advisor, John Overman, was named Advisor of the Year at the International Delta Epsilon Chi Career Development Conference held in Anaheim, California from April 21 - 26. Overman is a resident of Omega, Georgia, and has taught at Moultrie Tech since 1988.

The DEX Advisor of the Year award was established to recognize a chapter advisor who has achieved a level of excellence worthy of national recognition by serving Delta Epsilon Chi with dedication and distinction throughout the year.

This is the second time Overman has been recognized with the honor.  He has been a Marketing Educator and DECA/Delta Epsilon Chi advisor for 35 years, a member of the DECA Hall of Fame, and is currently serving Georgia DEX as the International Finance Director.  Overman is an active member of the Union Grove Church of God in Eldorado and is active in community affairs.

Select members of DEX were in Anaheim to participate in Delta Epsilon Chi’s 48th Annual Career Development Conference.  The annual conference brought together over 1,300 career-oriented postsecondary Marketing Management students from throughout the United Internationals, Puerto Rico and Canada to demonstrate competencies acquired during the school year in various occupational categories.  Members were also involved in the national DEX political campaigns to elect the division’s five national officers.

To attend the national conference members must have achieved recognition by winning awards at the International DEX Career Development Conference.  Those who win at nationals are not only acclaimed by instructors, advisors, employers, and their peers, but receive substantial reward for having reached the top of the Delta Epsilon Chi competitive event ladder.

Delta Epsilon Chi is the only national student organization operating through the nation’s schools to attract young people to careers in marketing, merchandising, and management.  Its purposes are to develop respect for education that will contribute to occupational competence, and to promote understanding and appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship in our free, competitive enterprise system.
