Moultrie Tech Students Inspired
by Lewis’ Vision of Life

Anil Lewis with Rad Tech Students

Moultrie Technical College Radiologic Technology students gather around visually-impaired guest speaker Anil Lewis as he demonstrates his text-to-voice device which helps him receive messages and read copy.  Lewis, 45, who was diagnosed at age nine with retinitis pigmentosa and lost his vision completely at 25 while a student at Georgia State University, is an advocate for improving the quality of life for all people with disabilities by working to remove the barriers of ignorance while creating equal opportunities.  A disability consultant working with companies in Georgia, Lewis has served as the president of the National Federation for the Blind (NFB) of Georgia and on the NFB board of directors and is the current president of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Georgia. He says his greatest contribution so far has been to encourage other people with disabilities to believe in themselves and to understand that they can make a difference.  Lewis, the most-requested guest speaker for the United Way organization, spoke to packed auditoriums at MTC’s Moultrie and Tifton campuses during the quarterly student assembly on October 27.
