Moultrie Technical College (MTC) President Tina Anderson received a $15,000 check on behalf of the MTC Foundation on Tuesday, making this the second gift in two years from Southwest Georgia Bank (SGB).
SGB Senior Vice President Sonny Murphy presented the donation, which is earmarked for supporting the programs in MTC’s new $9.5 million Allied Health building. Construction is scheduled for completion by early 2012 on MTC’s Veterans Parkway campus in Moultrie.
The check was the second of a $60,000 commitment from the bank over four years. DeWitt Drew, president and chief executive officer of SGB, made the initial announcement during a faculty and staff breakfast held in November 2008 at Moultrie Tech.
“Southwest Georgia Bank is a tremendous supporter of Moultrie Technical College and allows us to provide training to our students so that our communities are enriched through a trained work force,” said Anderson. “The most recent donation in support of the allied health building means that we can continue to be a leader in training health professionals in our service area. All of the donations made to MTC are returned to the community through training and higher wages.”
Murphy stated, “As a native of Moultrie, I have watched Moultrie Technical College grow from its beginning on Industrial Drive in 1964. It is exciting for Southwest Georgia Bank to be a part of the growth of this college. We feel it is a testament of what an outstanding job the staff and faculty have done.”
