Facelift Agrirama's Locomotive

MTC Automotive Students Repair Agriram's Steam Engine

Since its last running for 240 passengers on July 18, the Georgia Agrirama’s 1917 Vulcan Iron Works 0-4-0T steam locomotive has been sanded, primed and repainted in a refurbishing effort by Moultrie Technical College’s Auto Collision and Repair students. In partnership with the Agrirama Foundation, the College offered its student and instructor expertise to tackle as much of the painting of the engine as they could on the Industrial Drive Campus in Moultrie.  Moultrie Tech handled the preparation work and painting of all the parts that could be removed and transported to the campus, including the cab, saddle tank, domes, and even the tender.  By using Moultrie Tech’s industry standard paint booths, a higher grade of automotive type paint could be used and properly cured in the College’s specialized facilities.  Pictured, left to right, sanding the cab are MTC students Quintin Daniels and Michael Owens.  Along with program instructor Williams Segers, other students who worked on the train were Paul Cooley, Terrance Hadley, Billy Jennings, Sr., Horace Jolly, Anthony Napier and Brandon Summerlin.
