Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber Leadership Class Learns Value of a Good Education with Moultrie Tech at the Helm
Leadership Colquitt County 2009 toured ABAC on the Square, C.A. Gray Middle School and Moultrie Technical College as part of the group’s Education Day Tuesday.
Sponsored by the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Colquitt County lets post-secondary-bound students experience the opportunities in Colquitt County and see the value of returning to Colquitt County to work after post-secondary graduation. The participants include both junior and senior high school students and business professionals.
On Tuesday, the participants had lunch at Moultrie Technical College after touring the educational facilities. During lunch, the guest speaker was Scott Hudson, vice president of student affairs at the college. He gave a presentation called “It Could Happen Tomorrow.”
He told the group to imagine that they were involved in a car accident after leaving the luncheon. He said the first person on the scene would probably be a police officer who went through the criminal justice technology department at Moultrie Tech. Then, he said, the next people on the scene would be EMTs, ambulance driver and firemen, who also received their education at Moultrie Tech. As he named each of these professionals, a representative of each, dressed in their respective uniforms, walked in and lined up on the outer edges of the room. Even the wrecker driver, sent out to get the cars, received his commercial truck driving certificate at Moultrie Tech, Hudson said.
