Ashburn Mayor Hedges Encourages MTC GED Students to Seek Training

Mayor Hedges and GED Students

Moultrie Technical College's Turner County Campus Adult Education students received a visit from City of Ashburn Mayor Jim Hedges on August 26.  The mayor spoke to the students about the various departments in the city government and covered how the city manages its budget.  He also told the students about recent efforts to provide affordable housing for Ashburn residents.  According to MTC Adult Education instructor Melissa Burtle, the students had many questions about issues such as garbage fees, utilities, cable service and parking; but the majority of questions revolved around employment prospects.  Mayor Hedges informed students of opportunities with Cordele’s Inland Port Project and discussed areas in technical training that the students could pursue in order to become more employable.  Pictured, center, is Mayor Hedges with several MTC Turner County Campus students who are currently pursuing their GED credentials.
