It was a family affair where MTC Classic Road Race male 10K winner Michael Strickland celebrated with his son Andrew following his 39.36-minute time. Strickland’s wife Elizabeth finished second in the 5K race for the 35-39 age group, while daughter Sara won first place in the 8 & under category in the 1-mile Fun Run. |
The Moultrie Technical College Foundation’s Second Annual MTC Classic Road Race on May 1 doubled its number of runners and walkers from 90 in 2009 to more than 150 this year with a race that began and ended at the College’s Veterans Parkway Campus in Moultrie.
With the goal of raising funds for student scholarships and instructional equipment for the College in Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth counties, the MTC Classic Road Race – Education at a Fast Pace - included 5K and 10K races and a 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk. The race was an official Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Series points event.
Awards were given in the following categories for the 10K and 5K races: overall male and female winners and the top three males and females in the 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & over age groups.
The overall male winner in the 5K race was Benjamin Hoover at 20.42 minutes with Kim Luque winning the overall female category at 25.22. Michael Strickland won the overall male category at 39.36 minutes in the 10K race while Laura Lofton took the overall female prize with a 49.59-minute finish.
In the 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk awards were given to the overall male and female winners and the top three males and females in the 8 & under, 9-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over age groups.
The overall male winner in the 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk was Toby Kerner at 6.37 minutes. Maggie Bowden was the overall female racer with a 7.17-minute finish.
Event sponsors were Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Commercial Banking Company, Crystal Pharmacy, Southwest Georgia Bank, Mattco Realty and Tifton Highway Storage.
