Economic Developer to Address Moultrie Tech Graduates June 18

Moultrie Technical College (MTC) will hold its Winter-Spring 2010 commencement exercises at 6:30 p.m. June 18 at Withers Auditorium in Moultrie.

The ceremony will honor more than 300 allied health, business and computers, personal and public service, and technical and industrial program graduates from the College’s four-county service area of Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth.

MTC Surgical Technology instructor and 2009-2010 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year award winner Sherry King will serve as the faculty marshal.  Kerry S. Waldron will be the guest speaker at the event.

Once selected as one of the most 25 influential people in South Georgia, Waldron is presently serving as the director of the Adel-Cook County Economic Development Commission.   Prior to relocating to Adel, he served as the city manager of Quitman, Georgia, for over six years and in Thomaston for more than five years.

During his tenure, Waldron spearheaded the construction of a city owned cable TV system; the purchase of a private water/wastewater treatment facility and reservoir doubling capacities of the city’s infrastructure; and worked to increase service to citizens while reducing costs.

Now serving his tenth year, Waldron is one of nine members of the board of directors for the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia. MEAG represents 49 public power communities in the state. In his spare time, he has taught as an adjunct instructor for Columbus State University in the Masters in Public Administration program and is currently teaching American Government for Abraham Baldwin College.  

Also a motivational speaker and author, Waldron’s book Loving Life and Living Large: a commonsense approach to successful living was recently published by PublishAmerica.

He was born in Lake City, Florida, and grew up in White Springs on the banks of the Suwannee River. A graduate of Leadership Georgia program, Waldron is also a graduate of the University of Florida with a BA in Political Science and holds a Master in Public Administration from Valdosta State University.
