MTC and Worth County Schools Honored for Dual Enrollment Innovation

Dual Enrollment Honor

Moultrie Technical College's dual enrollment efforts with the Worth County School System were honored recently at the Innovation in Education Conference at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta. The College and its educational partners in Colquitt, Tift and Worth counties were presented with the 2010 Dual Enrollment Alliance Award for the State of Georgia. MTC was selected by a nominating committee because of its teamwork and the reduction of high school incompletion rates in all of its service areas.  Dual enrollment programs allow high school students to obtain high school and technical college credit simultaneously.  Worth County High School had 82 students in the program during the 2008-2009 academic year in courses for Cosmetology, Computer Information Systems and Welding Technology.  Sheila Caldwell, high school initiatives coordinator for the Technical College System of Georgia, said of MTC and its partners, "We are proud that you are an example for the State of Georgia. The intent of this award is to have a role model for other school districts to emulate! Bravo to each of you."  Pictured receiving his award is Superintendent Jim McMickin of the Worth County School System from MTC's High School Coordinator Mandy Ponder.  Others who joined in the award were MTC President Tina Anderson, MTC Vice President of Economic Development Shawn Utley, MTC Vice President of Student Affairs Scott Hudson, Ponder, Colquitt County Schools Superintendent Leonard McCoy, Tift County Schools Superintendent Patrick Atwater and Tiftarea Academy Headmaster Ron Drummonds.
