Moultrie Tech Goes Geocache
![]() |
Moultrie Technical College (MTC) Electronics Technology students use a portable Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the longitude and latitude, or geographic coordinates, for the college’s newest experimental venture called Geocaching. This high-tech treasure hunting game is played throughout the world by adventure-seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share the experiences online through websites such as www.geocaching.com. Treasure hunters are also asked to sign the log book found in the container and leave a small treasure behind after choosing their own treasure to take from the geocache container they have found. The hobby has gained rapid popularity over the past few years with over 1,000,000 caches hidden around the globe. There are currently more than 60 caches hidden within 30 miles of Moultrie’s 31768 zip code. Moultrie Tech joined the list with its own hidden treasure in mid-May.
