Moultrie Tech Foundation Sets Sights on Third Road Race

3rd Annual MTC Foundation Classic Road Race

AND THEY’RE OFF!  Runners from the 2010 MTC Classic Road Race hit the pavement to raise funds for student scholarships last May.  This year’s race is set for Saturday, May 7, and registration for runners and walkers is still open.

Moultrie Technical College (MTC) is quickly becoming the place to be each year for area runners and walkers on the first Saturday in May.  The MTC Foundation is calling people of all ages and fitness levels to lace up again for the cause of supporting scholarships for students in Colquitt, Tift, Turner and Worth counties.

The MTC Classic Road Race – Education at a Fast Pace – is planned for Saturday, May 7, and will begin and end at Moultrie Tech’s Veterans Parkway Campus in Moultrie.

Last year’s second MTC Classic saw over 150 runners and walkers from South Georgia and North Florida, which reflected almost double the 2009 inaugural race numbers.  The race is an official Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Series points event, so MTC organizers say they hope to see even more participants cross the finish line from all over the state and beyond this year.

“Our race has become a popular and enjoyable regional event for avid athletes as well as casual, amateur ones.  Our cause has become even more important this year for our students with the changes to the semester system and Georgia’s HOPE scholarship and grant program,” said MTC Foundation Director Darbie Avera.

“Providing options for financial resources so our students can get the education and training they need is at the forefront of what we do in the MTC Foundation,” added Avera.

Events will include 5K and 10K races for runners and a 1-mile Fun Run and Walk. Prizes will be given in the following categories for the 10K and 5K races:  overall male and female winners and the top three males and females in the 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & over age groups.

Prizes will be given in the following categories for the 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk:  overall male and female winners and the top three males and females in the 8 & under, 9-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over age groups.

Pre-registration for 12 years and up is $15.00 if received on or before April 22.  Late registration and day of event registration will be $18.00.  Registration for children 11 and under is $10.00.  All participants will receive an official race day t-shirt. Event proceeds will benefit the MTC Foundation, and all donations are tax-deductible.

On-site registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at Moultrie Technical College with the 5K and 10K races starting at 7:30 a.m.  The 1-Mile Fun Run and Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m.  The race awards ceremony will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. at MTC.
