The Moultrie Technical College Foundation, Inc. accepted a $2,500 donation from the Georgia Power Company Foundation in February to assist with the addition of a Surgical Technology Academy Training (STAT) laboratory in the MTC Tifton Campus Economic Development facility. The STAT lab will be used for training MTC surgical technology students, practicing physicians, surgical team members and surgical supply manufacturers in the use of the latest techniques and procedures. The project will serve as a training tool for the existing and future allied health workforce in the region. Currently, the closest physician training facilities of this kind are located in Naples, Florida, and Warsaw, Indiana. Georgia Power’s donation will allow Moultrie Tech to purchase surgical tools needed to outfit the STAT lab. The College anticipates the necessary surgical tools will cost in excess of $100,000 and are relying on community partners to help raise the funds to make the project a success.
