Two Industrial Systems Technology program graduates from Moultrie Technical College’s Tifton Campus competed in the 2011 SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri, in June and finished fifth in the country in the Mechatronics category. Mechatronics refers to the efficient and effective integration of mechanical systems and electronics and integrates the classical fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science/information technology. The same team of Derek Johnson, of Chula, and Joe Sumner, of Ray City, won a first place gold award in March at Georgia’s statewide SkillsUSA competition which qualified them to compete at the national level.
