Worth County Work Ready and WCHS CTAE Host Summer Camp

CTAE Summer Camp - Worth County

Worth County High School hosted a CTAE summer camp that ran May 30 through June 9.  Funding for the camp was provided by a Georgia Work Ready continuation grant to Worth County and administered by Moultrie Technical College and the Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce. Worth County received the $10,000 post-certification grant after becoming a Certified Work Ready Community of Excellence in the Spring of 2010.  The camp students participated in a course offered through the WCHS Career, Technology, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) department each day.  The purpose of the camp was to help increase student motivation and decrease the drop-out rate at WCHS. Courses included Family and Consumer Science, Construction, Healthcare Science, Metals Technology, Construction, and Business Education. Hands-on activities were  planned each day to aid students in exploring different career opportunities.  The students also took a field trip to Moultrie Technical College on June 2 to view post-secondary options.  Students attending the camp were Erykah Green, Donterrius Jefferson, Josh Judd, Caleb Posey, Adrienne Ruise, Ashley Sims, Destinee Smith, Patrick Thomas, Melody Tison, Autumn Truluck and Darin Yonce.  CTAE Director Scott Chafin, CTAE Secretary Cortney Roberts, CTAE Camp Coordinator Tina Pate, Health Occupations teacher Tommie Sue Hyde, Family and Consumer Science teacher Nancy Griffin, Construction teacher Mickey Bentley and Metals teacher Kenneth Taylor assisted with the camp.
