Community Partners Hope to Help Local Job Hunters

US Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported a 9.2 percent unemployment rate nationally in February with the state of Georgia facing even higher numbers at 10.2 percent. Employers and job seekers are looking for more innovative ways to meet their employment needs.  Local community partners in Colquitt County believe they can help.

Approximately 50 businesses and industries will gather on Thursday, April 28, at Moultrie Technical College’s Conference Center on the Veterans Parkway Campus in Moultrie.  Moultrie Tech, the Georgia Department of Labor and the Colquitt County Employer Committee will join forces to present the 2011 Community Career Resource Fair.  The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The event is open to the public as well as all Moultrie Tech students and graduates.  The purpose of this event is to familiarize the businesses and industries in our region and job seekers with one another.

Whether or not employers have jobs to offer at this time, job seekers will be interested in learning about local companies and what skills they would expect their employees to possess.  In turn, businesses may find matches for future employment.  Industries expected to be at the fair include health care, industrial manufacturing, sales and banking, among others.

Additionally, job seekers are encouraged to bring updated resumes and all information necessary to complete job applications on site.  Furthermore, to create a positive first impression with employers, participants should come dressed in business attire.  Because this is a professional event and space is limited, no children or strollers will be permitted.

Among the employers expected to participate in the fair are Sanderson Farms, Avon, Southwest Georgia Bank, Colony Bank, Vocational Rehabilitation, WellCare of Georgia, Quality Employment Service, Tift County Board of Education, MillerCoors, Mediacom, Equity Group Georgia Division, Moultrie Technical College Human Resources, Georgia Forestry Commission, Ruth’s Cottage, Sole Medical Spa, US Air Force, UniHealth Post Acute Care, Funston Gin Company, Harvey’s Supermarket, Moultrie YMCA, Lowes, Spa and Image, ResCare HomeCare, Papa John’s, US Navy, Green Oaks Center, Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Tift Regional Medical Center, Georgia Work Ready, SWGA Workforce Investment, Labor Finders, US Army, Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, Experience Works, Tift County Health Department, Magnolia Manor, National Beef, Georgia Department of Corrections/Autry State Prison, City of Moultrie/Moultrie Police Department, Primerica Financial Services, Lil Geek Shop and Lowndes 911.
