Ford Model T Tour Club Visits MTC Auto Tech Class
Moultrie Technical College’s Automotive Technology Industrial Drive Campus evening class received a special visit from the Ford Model T Tour Club on February 28. The North Florida Touring T's brought about 30 of the classic cars to Moultrie as part of a tour of Southwest Georgia. Instructor Chris Anderson invited the group to stop by the college so MTC’s students could see a side of auto technology that they don’t see much with today’s computerized dashboards and vehicle automation. The Ford Model T was considered the first affordable automobile, because Henry Ford introduced the assembly line instead of hand crafting the automobile. This allowed "middle class" America to afford a car for the first time. It was the first automobile mass produced on assembly lines with interchangeable parts. The engine of this car is known to be the foundation of today's automobiles. According to Touring T’s club members, with the 177 cubic inch front-mounted 4-cylinder engine, it was the most influential car of the 20th century.
